Former national cricket team captain Aamir Sohail says he was told just five minutes before the toss in the 1996 World Cup quarter-final against India that he was the captain.

Speaking on Geo News’ program score, Aamir Sohail revealed that his friends had already told him about captain Wasim Akram not playing in the 1996 World Cup quarter-final against India.

The former captain said that various boards of match fixers also have contacts.

He further said that 30 years have passed since the issue of match-fixing but Pakistan Cricket Board has not planned to beat South Africa and Australia and Pakistan has not been able to win Test series in Australia and South Africa till date.

It may be recalled that in the quarter final match of the 1996 World Cup held in Bangalore, India, Pakistan was defeated by India by 39 runs.

Wasim Akram was in charge of the team in this World Cup but he did not join the team due to injury before the important match of the quarter finals on which the duties of captaincy were handed over to Amir Sohail.
