Award-winning drum teacher Zulfiqar Ali alias ‘Pappu Sai’ from Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, passed away after a long illness.
According to Dawn newspaper, Pappu Sai had been suffering from liver cancer for a long time and the Punjab government had also announced a grant of Rs 200,000 for his treatment.
Pappu Sai was treated at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI) till the last days of his life, but lost his life after giving up liver function.
His funeral prayers were offered at the shrine of Baba Shah Jamal at Ichhra while he was buried at the mausoleum of Mai Sahiba as per his will.
After his funeral prayers, he was also paid tributes by playing drums while various political, social and showbiz personalities expressed deep sorrow and grief over his death.
Pappu Sai started playing drums at an early age and he entertained people by playing drums in a mystical manner for almost 4 decades.
Pappu Sai used to visit Baba Shah Jamal’s shrine every Thursday night and play drums and he never commercialized his drumming style in the lure of money.
He was also awarded the Medal of Distinction by the Government of Pakistan for his services while he had won many other domestic and foreign awards.
Pappu Sai was famous not only in Pakistan but also in other countries including USA, UK, Germany, France and Switzerland for his mystical drumming style and he also performed there.
Artists and musicians, including government officials, have expressed deep sorrow over his death, calling it a great loss to the world of drums.
