PEMRA, the watchdog of electronic media in Pakistan, has directed TV channels to refrain from airing ’embracing scenes’ in dramas.

These instructions were issued by PEMRA on Thursday through a notification.

According to the notification, TV dramas show scenes which are against the principles of politeness.

According to PEMRA, “the content shown on Pakistani TV channels is against Islamic teachings and Pakistani culture.”

The notification said that “all satellite TV channels are instructed to refrain from airing scenes of love or embrace in dramas and to review the content of dramas properly.”

PEMRA says that it has received numerous complaints from the public not only through Pakistan Citizen Portal, PEMRA Call Center and feedback system but also on social media and WhatsApp group.

It may be recalled that last year PEMRA had banned at least three dramas and web series ‘Charil’ due to inappropriate scenes.

Human rights activist Reema Omar jokingly tweeted that “PEMRA finally got something right. Love and affection among married people is not the real face of our society and should not be exaggerated but our culture includes violence and control which we should protect as much as possible.
